The Black Swan and Capitalism 2.0

Published by mark at 4:26 pm under Democracy, Uncategorized, music

This is the best book I’ve read in the past year or so, and I have been recommending it to people ever since.  Unfortunately, I didn’t follow all of the advice in my own investing, but it’s never too late to learn.

The author was just on Charlie Rose and he does a good job of explaining the book, including dispelling the myth that it’s an investing book.  It is more philosophical than that, and it’s a philosophy that resonates strongly with me. My mom bought me the book on a hunch it was up my alley, and boy was she right! Always listen to your mother.

Please watch the clip below to save me the expense of buying you this book:

But you should still buy the book!

  • "The turkey's risk management department" priceless! ;-)

I started with "Fooled by Randomness" but haven't been able to finish it yet. Look forward to getting to this one after I finish that one.

It takes a smart ,wise guy like you to recognize the value of this book!

  • Sold! I'm growing weary of repeatedly citing a work I've never read. Was this post just a friendly hint? The offer of an analytic breath mint?
  • I bought a copy here in Cape Town, and am enjoying making my way through it while on the beach (I am still a geek). Feeling it's a bit heavy on anecdotes and light on "facts" so far, but still 200 pages to go...

    Happy new year!
  • It's not really a business book. And besides, facts are overrated. :)
